i have a new blog, because this one is just getting out of hand and is beyond repair. i can’t edit it and it’s driving me insane. so, here is is. much love
The question I am asking the world is: are you certain?
Defining certainty can put you through the jaws of hell; its teeth chew you into what seems as small as a particle and then spits you out again. Because truthfully I don’t believe you can be certain of anything. For instance the knowledge of colour. Your primary teacher taught you that the shade in the box labelled green was green. But is it?
Is your green my yellow? Have you ever thought about whether everything you see is different in kind and shape and being to the person standing next to you? It’s an incredible thought.
The truth is we cannot know of anything or be certain of anything. We cannot know if the sun will rise tomorrow. People will argue with the “laws of physics” but what is that actually based on? Empirically verifiable evidence (i.e. stuff we can experience with senses) is only proved by repeating the experiment over and over again. Just because nine peaches have stones in them doesn’t mean the tenth one will… So why after 364 days of the year having the sun rise should it necessarily do it again on New Years? Just because it hasn’t happened before, doesn’t mean it can’t happen. I could fly tomorrow, you could find a million pounds, God could descend on earth with thousands of minions and separate the tweeters from the facebookers and save the tumblrs!
Nothing is impossible, it’s only highly improbable.
this counts as revision.. more useful than my bloody handouts on empiricism!
